Object-Swap Video Editing Is Having a Moment - Here Is How to Do It Yourself
A video-editing technique got a lot of attention this week after Higgsfield added an object-swap mode to its Genjutsu tool: point it at a video you already have, tell it what to replace, and it changes only that one thing while the rest of the footage stays exactly as filmed. The background, the other people in frame, the camera move, the cuts and the timing all carry over untouched - only the element you named gets swapped.
It is a genuinely useful idea for anyone who makes ads or short-form content, and it is not exclusive to one tool. Karya Clone already does the same underlying job, so if you have been wanting to try this, you do not need a new account to test it.
What object-swap editing actually does
The difference from ordinary AI video generation is the starting point. A text-to-video or image-to-video model builds a clip from nothing but a prompt or a still image. Object-swap editing starts from a real video you already have - something you filmed, or a reference clip you found - and changes one named element inside it: a presenter, a product on a table, the outfit someone is wearing, or the location behind them. Everything else in the shot, including the motion and the pacing, is inherited from the original clip rather than regenerated.
- Recast a presenter in a UGC-style ad while keeping the same delivery, pacing and cuts.
- Swap the product in an existing product-demo clip without reshooting the whole scene.
- Change the outfit, backdrop or setting behind a subject while their performance stays untouched.
- Produce several variants of one working ad - different face, different product, different location - to test which creative performs best.
Doing it in Karya Clone
Karya Clone is built around this exact workflow. Open the Clone tab, choose Motion Transfer or Object Swap, and upload one reference video between 4 and 30 seconds long. Add up to 30 reference images to define the character, product, outfit or location you want to swap in, describe the change, and pick a resolution - 480p, 720p or 1080p. Karya Clone renders the result on the same source motion, cuts and timing as your reference clip.
Object Swap is the mode that matches Higgsfield's new feature most closely: name one element to replace and the rest of the shot holds. Motion Transfer goes further and recasts the whole performance onto a new subject - useful when you want a different person doing the same choreography or delivery, not just a single swapped object.
A note on sound
If your reference clip has music or a soundtrack playing under it, generate with the Sound setting on ambient rather than original - carrying over a copyrighted soundtrack into a rendered result is the single most common way one of these jobs gets rejected by the upstream video model. Silent works too if you plan to add your own audio afterward.
Try it
Karya Clone is live now in Karya Studio under the Clone tab. Upload a clip you already have, pick Motion Transfer or Object Swap, and the credit cost is shown before you generate - same rule as every other studio in Karya.
